EFFICIENT20 ProjectENAMA, italian partner for “EFFICIENT20” project
In 2008, the European Commission has committed to fight climate change and to promote renewable energy, with which it intends to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20% and to reach 20% of renewable energies on the total energy consumption in the European Union by 2020.
ENAMA has always been active in research and innovation in the agro-mechanical sector, and is partner of the European project "EFFICIENT20" financied by the Intelligent Energy Agency. The aim of the project is to demonstrate the feasibility of achieving the European target of 20% energy savings in agriculture by 2020, especially on agricultural diesel savings, responsible for more than 50% of all energy consumed in agriculture.
The project started in May 2010 and lasts 36 months with a total budget of more than 1.4 million Euro involving 9 Institutions from several European countries (Italy, France, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Poland, Slovenia), and including 4 members of the ENTAM Network (European Network for Testing of Agricultural Machines).
All partners of the project will work to spread the project to the main fairs and international events of the agro-mechanical sector over the three years of the project, involving the manufacturers of agricultural machinery, professional associations of agricultural and forestry entrepreneurs and contractors as "Associated Members" of the project.
Farmers, contractors, public institutions and all people who are interested in energy saving will have a dedicated website realized to communicate and disseminate all the technical documents related to the project. The peculiarity of the Efficient20 project is that the achievement of the target of reducing agricultural fuel consumption by 20% will be assessed through direct field measurements, using tractors and other agricultural equipment normally used by farmers and contractors in daily activities, on agricultural crops and forestry.
The added value of the project will be the direct involvement of the pilot groups (groups of agricultural / forestry entrepreneurs and contractors that will cooperate for a constant and timely monitoring of diesel fuel consumption). Some of them will have specific tools such as mini computers for real-time fuel consumption measurement to correlate the fuel consumption of agricultural machines with the many variables that affect the daily use in the field. In addition, to evaluate the human component, "eco-efficient" driving tests will be organized to demonstrate the effectiveness of low-fuel driving strategies for agricultural machinery.
Within the project, ENAMA is committed to technically and financially support the pilot groups and has already been activated by requiring the collaboration of the Agricultural Associations (CIA, Coldiretti, Confagricoltura, Unima) which are also represented in its Board of Directors.
More information on the project and the possibility of joining as Associated Members can be requested at ENAMA (firstname.lastname@example.org ) and will be available on the Efficient20 project website: https://ec.europa.eu.
