Task 3.1 - Starting of a certification system for woody biomass

Task goals

  • Development of certification systems for solid biomasses.

Description of the activities to be implemented

  • Development and launch of a certification system for the agro-energy supply chain , i.e. biofuels from by-products of agricultural activities (pruning residues, shells, etc.), livestock, forestry and agri-food industry (grape pips, nuts, etc.).

  • Definition of qualitative parameters for different types of biofuels from agricultural, livestock, forestry or agri-food industry by-products.

  • Proposals for the development of a review of industry regulations for shells, nuts and pruning residues.

  • Implementation of guidelines and definition of quality standards for an alternative use to the direct combustion of some by-products of agricultural / forest origin.

  • Development of a certification system able to guarantee producer's compliance with the standards required by the legislation.

  • Development of a Blockchain system for the certification and traceability of the agro-energy supply chain.

  • Training courses and dissemination activities: creation of 2 multimedia modules and organization of 3 seminars.

Carried out activities

Conference: "Solid biomass: state of the art and opportunities for companies" of November 10th, 2018.

Task 3.2 - Starting of a certification system for biogas plants or their components

Task goals

  • Development of a certification system for plants producing electricity and / or thermal energy from renewable sources powered by biogas, which certifies production and use of biogas for companies that adhere to.

  • Maximum and economically compatible reduction, according to the different business potentialities and orientation, of:
    - risks for operator safety;
    - environmental impact;
    - impact on the social conscience of the types and quantities of biomass used, with particular reference to agricultural areas and products stealed from the food supply chain.

  • Dissemination of the achieved results through the creation of a dedicated brochure, in order to test the new solutions on selected events based on possible applications in the area.

Description of the activities to be implemented

  • General regulation for the certification of production and use of biogas.

  • Regulation on requirements, qualification criteria and obligations of inspectors.

  • Regulation on the methods to run inspection for the certification of production and use of biogas.

  • Regulation on the methods to run surveillance inspection for the certification of production and use of biogas.

  • Regulation for the Deliberating Committee.

  • Organization of at least 1 workshop on goals and contents of the biogas certification.

  • Addendum Disciplinary “BiogasDoneRigth®” for the enhancement of the digestate.

Carried out activities

Conference: "BiogasDoneRigth® Certification" of November 6th, 2018.

Task 3.3 - Starting of a certification system for biolubricants

Task goals

  • Development of a certification system for lubricants from biomass, which certifies a production process and a life cycle of the product entirelly environmentally friendly, demonstrating the technical comparability of these products to fossil fuels.

  • Implementation of a certification system for biolubricants in agreement with CREA - ING, identified as a "technical" interlocutor for the definition of requirements and procedures, with the aim of promoting the development of biolubricants, encouraging environmental sustainability.

Description of the activities to be implemented

  • Disciplinary “biolubricants” for production and use of biolubricants.

  • General regulation for the certification of production and use of biolubricants.

  • Regulation on requirements, qualification criteria and obligations of inspectors.

  • Regulation on the methods to run inspection for the certification of production and use of biolubricants.

  • Regulation on the methods to run surveillance inspection for the certification of production and use of biolubricants.

  • Regulation for the Deliberating Committee.

  • Organization of at least 2 workshops on goals and contents of the biolubricants certification.

Task 3.4 - Starting of a certification system for farm energy efficiency

Task goals

  • Development of a certification system for the energy efficiency of farms.

  • Definition of guidelines for energy check, containing values and limits to allow greater optimization of the energy efficiency for agricultural companies.

Description of the activities to be implemented

  • Creation of a certification scheme on the efficiency levels of agricultural or forestry companies, relevant to plants, connected facilities and to the entire production process.

  • Realization of databases on the average energy consumption of the various utilities necessary for carrying out production activities. The collected data will be analyzed and processed in order to define an average energy consumption per unit of product and an average level of efficiency for the company.
