National Homologation

The national homologation – as for art. 75 of the Rules of road – is valid only on the national territory and it is released according to actual national regulations.

It contains exemptions and alternative procedures as below:
  • Limited homologation – D.M. 277 of May 2nd, 2001: it’s a particular approval released whenever the small number of units technically and economically justifies the omission of some tests;
  • Temporary homologation – D.M. 94 of January 16th, 1995 and art.227 of the Rules of road - it’s granted to vehicles still in testing stage, subject to limitations on the duration and validity that can be reduced according to the quantity of the production;
  • Single specimen homologation – D.M. 277 of May 2nd, 2001: it is applied for single specimen vehicles or as a result of structural or functional changes of an already approved vehicle, such as: outfittings, transformations and nationalizations.
In order to start mass production of an homologated vehicle it is necessary to receive approval for mass production by a Department for Transport, navigation and information/statistics, in compliance with the requirements of the Decree of April 21st, 2009 of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation.
