Safety Training Courses

Enama has recently launched several training / informative Safety Courses for operators in agriculture, in order to provide an overview of regulatory and practical aspects of mechanical vechicles.

The courses were held at the CREA offices - Monterotondo (Rome), Treviglio (BG) and C.N.R. Imamoter of Vezzolano (AT) - and have so far allowed 60 technicians, belonging to territorial organizations of the Enama Members, to acquire important information on mechanical safety.

The lectures were conducted by sector experts of Enama, Ispesl, C.N.R. - Imamoter, local health districts (inspectors and occupational doctors), Magistrature as well as freelance.
Below is a summary of the topics covered:

The importance of prevention in terms of injury reduction: statistics and regulatory frameworks.
The first lecture conducted by the technicians of the local health districts was aimed at providing an overview of the situation in order to better address the problems and their distribution on the territory.

General Part on the Safety of Mechanical Vechicles – Section 1: Reference Standards, Technical Standards.
Lecture held by Enama and focused on providing a first overview of general reference standards and technical standards (typologies, usage guidelines, etc.).

General Part on the Safety of Mechanical Vechicles – Section 2: The use of machines in the company and the purchase of new machines (EC declarations, manuals, etc.).
Lecture held by ENAMA and Ispesl. ENAMA illustrated the problems associated with the purchase of new agricultural machines and Ispesl the problems encountered in market control activities and the procedures for applying  the safeguard clause to specific issues. This lecture guides to the detail of the program and begins to address the problems and the possible solutions.

General Part on the Safety of Mechanical Vechicles – Section 3: The purchase and sale of used machines.
Lecture held by ENAMA and Ispesl, concerning same topics of section 2, but related to the used machines.

General Part on the Safety of Mechanical Vechicles – Section 4: Responsibilities.
The legal aspects were debate by a Magistrate who outlined the attribution of responsibilities and possible sanctions by providing examples exploring wide records.

General Part on the Safety of Mechanical Vechicles – Section 5: Safety in public road and private company road traffic.
Agricultural machines run on the road and on farms often with combinations of different and customized equipment that must comply with strict rules, especially regarding size and masses. Enama technicians have illustrated this matter by giving details of the most common issues based on the experiences gained during the many activities already carried out and on the available questionnaire database.

General Part on the Safety of Mechanical Vechicles – Section 6: The main risks associated with the use of machines and occupational diseases.
Lecture held by occupational doctors of local health districts, providing informations on the medical aspects and the most common problems and remedies.

Special Part on the Safety of Mechanical Vechicles – Section 1: noise and vibration.
Several experts have illustrated in detail the regulations, causes and preventive measures. The participation of operative teachers on the territory has allowed to enrich the contents with useful practical information on the most common issues.

Special Part on the Safety of Mechanical Vechicles – Section 2: Personal protective equipment.
Detailed description of devices, how to use these and possibilities. The lectures were done by technicians of the inspection bodies and experts of research facilities.

Demonstration 1: Choice and use of personal protective equipment.
The practical aspects of the previous theoretical discussion. The lectures were the same as in the previous topic.

Special Part on the Safety of Mechanical Vechicles – Section 3: machines and company safety signage.
This section is intended to provide a clear reference on how to identify and apply signage.

Special Part on the Safety of Mechanical Vechicles – Section 4: the buildings connected with the use of the machines.
The main problems related to the buildings dedicated to the machines (shelter, workshop, phytosanitary storage, etc.) have been discussed in this section.

Demonstration 2: the engine.
The requirements of new and used engines have been demonstrated with new and used "reconditioned" mechanical vehicles.

Demonstration 3: visit to the buildings.
The visit to the buildings completed the theoretical aspects.

Special Part on the Safety of Mechanical Vechicles – Section 5: waste.
As known, agricultural machines produce waste (exhausted oils, batteries, filters, various components, etc.) and, at the end of their cycle, are a waste themselves; it means that they must be treated in accordance with current regulations. This lecture was entrusted to an expert at the Reggio Emilia Animal Production Research Center which has the necessary experience in this field.

Demonstration 4: operating machines- Section 1.
Demonstrations were made on the operating machines in the company.

Demonstration 4: operating machines- Section 2.
Completion of the previous one.

Demonstration 5: the system (engine + operator machines) - Section 1.
It has been carried out demonstrations with the full system, after have individually treated the engines and the operator machines in the previous demonstations.

Demonstration 5: the system (engine + operator machines) – Section 2.
Completion of the previous one.

Demonstration 6: demonstrations follow up meeting.
Demonstrations follow up meeting. This last step to review the many technical issues related to the use and adaptation of agricultural machines for companies and the verification of safety requirements in the same companies and traders.

Techniques of communication.
This part is an important complement to what has been learned in the course as it provides the elements for better dissemination and transmission of the new information to the operators.

Use of the technical and informative material provided by ENAMA.
This part was finalized to provide useful information to technicians on the use of distributed material in order to properly use it and disseminate.

The product certification applied to agricultural machines.
In this section, the various certifications and the meaning of the certifications are described with particular reference to the one carried out by ENAMA and its benefits to the industry.

Final Test.
Test, consisting of 38 questions (quizzes) and a final evaluation of the course, the logistics and the lectures.

Evaluation of the risks of a farm and project of information and training in a farm.
The aim of the evaluation is to provide information to support the work of the technicians with respect to farms.

Developing a security procedure.
The procedure is useful for providing information to support the work of technicians with regard to farms.
